Nature in Focus – An Exhibition by Mark Naftel
Tuesday 8 September – Friday 2 October : Art at The Park Gallery, Saumarez Park
The National Trust of Guernsey is delighted to welcome visitors to Nature in Focus, a captivating new exhibition by local artist Mark Naftel, opening on Tuesday 8 September at Art at The Park Gallery, The Folk and Costume Museum, Saumarez Park.
Born and raised in Guernsey, Mark is a self-taught artist whose meticulous attention to detail has earned him a reputation for creating remarkably lifelike paintings.
While best known for his dramatic cityscapes, this exhibition turns the spotlight onto the natural world, celebrating the astonishing beauty and diversity of wildlife through a collection of breathtakingly realistic artworks.
Working primarily in oils, Mark has also embraced the challenge of creating exquisite black and white studies using a single black Conté à Paris pastel pencil. Through careful layering, blending and subtle use of light and shade, he produces richly textured portraits that reveal the unique character of each animal.
At the heart of Nature in Focus is a simple but powerful message. As Mark explains, "The job of an artist is to gift people the time to stop and look – to not only appreciate what we have, but also appreciate what we risk losing." His work invites us to pause, reflect and reconnect with the remarkable wildlife that shares our planet.
Whether you are an art enthusiast, a wildlife lover, or simply looking for an inspiring visit, Nature in Focus promises an exhibition full of beauty, skill and quiet contemplation.
Admission is free, we are access-friendly with nearby parking and all are warmly welcome.
