5. Trail Cams
The National Trust of Guernsey will, from time to time, install trail cams on our properties for the purpose of data collection relating to research. Research may include how our property is being used by visitors, wildlife and habitat use, and user safety.
Some of our lands are open to the public at all times, and as such are open to abuse through mistreatment, fly-tipping etc. We expect users of our land to be respectful of our property, the wildlife and other users, but from time to time we find evidence or receive reports that this may not have been the case. Our trail cams give us the capacity to monitor hot-spots and to respond to reports of abuse with an evidence based understanding. They also provide an opportunity to capture the brilliance of nature that can occur when humans are absent.
By entering and using our property, visitors are giving consent for their personal data (identifying features and/or clothing) to be recorded for the purposes stated. Our trail cams do not collect audio data.
Data is held securely within the trail cams and is transferred regularly to a secure encrypted data store, where it is processed for the purposes of research.
Any footage from the trail cams that is made public is anonymised prior to publication ensuring that any personal data is not released. Access to the data held is restricted only to those with a lawful interest in the data, including those who are carrying out the research and those responsible for it.
The National Trust of Guernsey will not store any personal data recorded on the trail cams for longer than six months unless that specific data becomes part of an ongoing project or is required for the purposes of forming evidence of wrongdoing or abuse of our property.
If you believe that the National Trust of Guernsey holds your personal data from a trail cam and you wish to confirm this, please contact us to make a subject access request, providing the location, date and time of your visit, and we will provide you with the opportunity to review any related trail cam footage.
