National Trust of Guernsey Members & Guests' Preview"Nature in Focus" – An Exhibition by Mark Naftel
Monday 7 September | 5.00pm – 7.00pm Art at The Park Gallery, The Folk and Costume Museum, Saumarez Park
The National Trust of Guernsey is delighted to invite Members and guests of the artist to an exclusive preview of "Nature in Focus", a stunning new exhibition by Guernsey artist Mark Naftel.
Born and raised in Guernsey, Mark first discovered his passion for art while studying at Les Beaucamps Secondary School. Entirely self-taught, he has continued to refine his highly realistic style, earning admiration for his remarkable ability to capture both atmosphere and detail.
Although best known for his large-scale cityscapes, Mark's fascination with wildlife emerged after painting a cherished family parakeet and a robin as a special anniversary gift. That unexpected journey has resulted in a captivating collection celebrating the extraordinary beauty and diversity of the natural world.Working primarily in oils, Mark has also embraced the challenge of creating striking monochrome wildlife studies using just a single black Conté à Paris pastel pencil. Through an intricate combination of layering, blending and careful erasing, he achieves an astonishing depth of tone, texture and realism.
In Mark's own words, "The job of an artist is to gift people the time to stop and look – to not only appreciate what we have, but also appreciate what we risk losing."
Join us on Monday 7 September between 5.00pm and 7.00pm for an enjoyable evening, meet the artist, and be among the first to experience this inspiring exhibition before it opens to the public.
We are access-friendly, with nearby parking. We look forward to welcoming you!
