Back to Folk & Costume Museum

Gallery

The main showcase of 'Elegant Georgians' focuses on one day in Guernsey's social history: 16 April 1759, the wedding of Marie de Carteret and Jean Guille which took place at St. George, the country estate of the wealthy Guille family. Supported by paintings kindly provided by Museums and Galleries, we are proud to present an exhibition of the most historic and, some might say, the most beautiful items in our extensive costume collection, some of which date to the early 1700s. The fine art of Georgian tailoring using sumptuous silks and delicate embroidery is also displayed in the secondary cabinet with an exhibition of mens' vests and waistcoats of the period. This exhibition will run until end of October 2024.
