Assembled Members and friends at NTG's 53rd AGM would all agree that guest speaker Charles Alluto held everyone captivated, as he spoke of the acquisitions, challenges and campaigns covered by National Trust for Jersey since its foundation, some 75 years ago.
In his own words, Charles Alluto feels passionately about conservation, preservation and restoration. Demolition work has now started, to remove a 1970's Pontin's holiday camp at Plémont. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty and was recently acquired by National Trust for Jersey with financial support from States of Jersey. NTJ & Save Jersey's Heritage, continue to work hard at permanently safeguarding one of St. Helier's most important group of 18th & 19th century buildings at Dumaresq Street and Pitt Street. We wish them every success with these important campaigns.
Charles Alluto's whirlwind 24 hour visit is best described as uplifting and inspirational.
Until next time, or, à la perchoine NTJ!
