Go Foraging and enjoy a taste of country living

News

Foraging is a fun way to enjoy a weekend at home, or away, with more courses than ever on offer. People generally think foraging is a lovely idea, passed down through the generations but if you're a newbie, it takes courage to do it on your own ... mainly for fear of poisoning yourself! Foraging with experts gives people the encouragement and confidence to go pick and eat something, whether it's a dandelion leaf or wild garlic that's delicious, free and not in a plastic packet from a supermarket. The fruits of foraging are not just about salads.   Crushed herbs make a refreshing drink and if dried, can be stored and used throughout the year.  Autumn provides foragers with bountiful baskets and many National Trust properties offer foraging events.  In Devon, for example,  there's Fungi and Foraging in the Heddon Valley on 5 October from 10.30am - 1pm.  Join expert Patrick Watts-Mabbott and a National Trust ranger on this stroll to discover how many wild treats you can find.  For more information: www.nationaltrust.org/uk/heddon-valley We will be taking a small group of Foragers along some National Trust of Guernsey trails in the Autumn so please keep an eye on our events page for more news and to sign up if you're interested.   If, in the meantime, you want to go Summer foraging, take a look at Wild Guernsey. As a National Trust of Guernsey member, you have free entrance and parking to National Trust properties in England, Scotland and many worldwide Trusts.  That's a lot for £20!  Enquire now about NTG Membership from just £20 per annum.
