Guernsey Heritage Festival 2018 free fun for all at The Folk and Costume Museum
With free entry for all and as part of the Guernsey Heritage Festival 2018, visitors can enjoy many events taking place on the museum courtyard and within our unique cluster of heritage buildings. Fun courtyard activities start with Victorian Daily Exercises on The Courtyard at 10:30 am, followed by butter-making demonstrations. Lovers of costume will enjoy a guided tour through the museum’s special costume displays from 11:45 am – 12:15 pm and get an insight into the personal stories and social trends behind each item. A Lunchtime Courtyard Quiz for all the family takes place between 12:15 pm – 12:30 pm when prizes are awarded for those who’ve discovered the most about some of the museum's history. Visitors can roll their sleeves up after lunch and enjoy a Victorian Wash Day, getting involved with wash tubs, mangles and irons. The closing tour, guides visitors through the museum’s Victorian tableau displays, with an insight into the home life of Guernsey people, over 100 years ago. The Curator is particularly interested to meet people who can share memories of the museum. Perhaps you worked as a volunteer, maybe you visited as a child. Anyone who can help embellish our museum history is warmly invited to share their photographs and interesting stories. ‘You are our living history and what you could share, may be incredibly valuable to us’ – Christian Morris, Curator.
