HM The Queen 1926 – 2022
Following the sad announcement of the death of Queen Elizabeth II and as a mark of respect, The Folk and Costume Museum will be closed tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday, reopening Monday 12th September.
The Victorian Shop and Parlour will be closed tomorrow, reopening Tuesday 13th September. Both properties will also be closed for the occasion of the funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth II.
As a 21-year-old princess, Elizabeth had vowed to devote her life to service. Reflecting on those words decades later, during her Silver Jubilee in 1977, she declared:
"Although that vow was made in my salad days, when I was green in judgment, I do not regret nor retract one word of it."
That same commitment to serving was made 45 years later in a thank you letter to the nation on the weekend of her Platinum Jubilee in June, when she signed herself “Your Servant, Elizabeth R”.
We feel and share the loss as individuals, as an organisation committed to respecting heritage, and for Guernsey as a Crown Dependency.
