James Dumbelton – final Courtyard Concert 2017

Courtyard Concerts | Folk and Costume Museum

National Trust of Guernsey is delighted to welcome James Dumbelton as the final artiste for this year's inaugural season of Courtyard Concerts, based at The Folk and Costume Museum Courtyard, Saumarez Park. James Dumbelton was born in Cornwall and  raised in Devon. A dynamic and entertaining performer, he is much in demand on the English folk scene as a vocalist & multi-instrumentalist, having recorded and performed with the likes of singer and fiddle player Jackie Oates and Devon folk singer Jim Causley. James attended both Dartington College of Arts and the folk music degree course in Newcastle for a time, picking up influences from all quarters and learning from a range of instrumentalists and singers. Now based in Guernsey, James has developed an interest in the traditional music of the Channel Islands; particularly Guernsey, and is undertaking a revival (Riboterie) of the music, song and dance of the islands. James still gets off the rock to play with his old friends from time to time, but you may have seen him in Guernsey playing various instruments for all sorts of occasions, working with The Language Commission and Guernsey Museums. James's album, aptly named 'Houmet Paradis' - an Island nature reserve, safeguarded by the National Trust of Guernsey, received the following review: ' ... virtuosic profundity, that displays great sensitive and understanding of the instrument, 'Houmet Paradis' is enchanting from beginning to end.' (Living Tradition Magazine) For your own comfort and best enjoyment, please feel free to bring along rugs, chairs and maybe a picnic too. Some seating is provided. The Museum Shop will be open for visitors to browse an unusual selection of traditional toys and gifts, as well as exclusively designed products celebrating aspects of Guernsey life and heritage.
