Yesterday was one of those High Summer days which brought cloudless skies and a small army of enthusiastic mini-beast explorers to the hayfields and outbuildings at Les Caches Farm. Armed with nothing more than magnifying glasses and jam jars, no stone remained unturned in our quest for Mini-Beasts. Result ... we found lots of woodlice, a few tiny spiders, many ants, one caterpillar and lots of empty snail shells.
The hard orange earth was deeply cracked and more resembled Arizona than Guernsey. Fortunately the latter was a safer bet for a mini-beast hunt, or we may have found ourselves staring at scorpions or rattlesnakes - and a long risk assessment report!
Many thanks to the unstinting Explorer-Parents and please let your Mini-Explorers know that we'll be hunting big spiders, beetles and worms during our Autumn Mini-Beast Hunt & Conker Tournament. Date TBA and doubtless waterproofs and wellies will be advised too! (Eurgh, now there's a thought...)
If anyone has any photographs, we'd love to see them! Please send to: [email protected]
Thanks to Martin Ozanne & Hannah Laidlow for organising a splendid hog roast and also to Jason at the Forest Stores for providing the same.
