Thanks to our Volunteers who make Lé Viaër Marchi happen
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the many volunteers, helping with Lé Viaër Marchi at Saumarez Park, where around 6,000 people annually pass through the gates and enjoy a fine Guernsey Evening, celebrating the best of Island traditions. Inspired by Founder Member Peggy Carey OBE, in 1970, this popular event, is now looked after by her grandson Andrew Carey, as President of Lé Viaër Marchi Committee. Today, the set-up starts, with volunteers helping to unload many chairs and trestle tables, from storage containers – some may say it's a work-out, but we are mindful that this is a workout – on a Sunday. Tomorrow, with the help of more volunteers, it's our 'Ready, Steady, Go' time from 8am, throughout the day, the event and long after sunset. By midday on Tuesday, a visitor to Saumarez Park would never know that the place had been thronging with thousands of people. Each and every year, the big clear-up, after the big night, is already underway by early morning, brilliantly carried out by volunteer support teams.
