The Story of the Waterwheel

News | Restoration

Dating from the 16th Century, Le Moulin de Quanteraine is a unique farm complex which was given to the Trust in 1989 by Mrs. Elizabeth Silten.  The main farmhouse has been expertly restored along with the ancient water wheel - an express wish of Mrs. Silten. The first restoration of the Waterwheel, nearly twenty years ago, was carried out by students from the College of Further Education, one of whom was a young apprentice by the name of Andy Richmond. In 2012, the Waterwheel was restored for a second time, again by students from the College of Further Education but under the leadership of the same Andy Richmond who is now in a management role at M&G Engineers. It was reassuring and delightful that the second restoration of Moulin Waterwheel was back in experienced hands.  The Waterwheel is an eye-catching work of superb craftsmanship and one which we hope Mrs. Silten would be proud.
