Viaer Marchi 2026: a great success

Viaer Marchi

With another successful Lé Viaer Marchi behind us and a chance to review a plethora of photographs and statistics, the National Trust of Guernsey is delighted to announce that this year's event raised approximately £17,000 to support the Trust's work in caring for Guernsey's heritage.

Held on Monday 6 July in the beautiful surroundings of Saumarez Park, Lé Viaer Marchi once again brought together Islanders and visitors for an evening celebrating the traditions, crafts, food and community spirit that make Guernsey so special. From traditional demonstrations and artisan stalls to local food, entertainment and activities for children, the Park was alive with the sights, sounds and atmosphere of one of Guernsey's best-loved summer events.

The Main Arena provided a lively programme of entertainment, while younger visitors enjoyed everything from magic to juggling, stilt-walking and traditional games. The ever-popular Crown and Anchor, and an enticing selection of food and refreshments, all contributed to the evening's appeal. The Guernsey Military History Company and the many craftspeople and demonstrators also helped bring the Island's rich heritage to life.

The success of Lé Viaer Marchi relies upon an extraordinary amount of work, much of it taking place long before the first visitors arrive at Saumarez Park. Our sincere appreciation goes to the Lé Viaer Marchi Organising Committee – a small but mighty team comprising Jemma Field, Sara Lampitt and Jacqui Mancini. Small in number but certainly packing a punch, the trio work tirelessly behind the scenes throughout the year to bring this much-loved event together. Particular thanks go to Jemma, the Trust's Estate Manager and Coordinator, whose exceptional organisational skills, seemingly boundless energy and attention to detail are invaluable in ensuring that everything runs smoothly. Together, they prove that a small team can achieve remarkable things.

The Trust also extends its warmest thanks to the many volunteers who generously give their time and energy, whether helping with preparations, setting up stalls, welcoming visitors, running attractions or undertaking the considerable task of clearing up afterwards. Their enthusiasm, good humour and commitment are at the very heart of the event. Particular thanks go to Ravenscroft Capital, our principal sponsor for 2026, whose generous support helped make the evening possible. We are enormously grateful for their involvement and encouragement.

Looking ahead to 2027, although the bunting has long since been packed away, preparations are already under way for Lé Viaer Marchi 2027, to be held on Monday 5th July.  Next year's event promises an additional historical dimension, with a special nod to the millennium of the birth of William the Conqueror in 1027, providing an opportunity to celebrate Guernsey's Norman connections and the Island's fascinating history. While plans are still taking shape, visitors can look forward to the familiar atmosphere and traditions of Lé Viaer Marchi, alongside some new ideas inspired by this significant anniversary.

For the National Trust of Guernsey, Lé Viaer Marchi is about much more than fundraising. It is an opportunity to bring people together, share traditional skills, celebrate our Island's distinctive identity and introduce new generations to the heritage we all have a part in protecting.

To everyone who helped, supported or simply came along and enjoyed the evening – thank you. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2027!
