What a great Bonkers for Conkers we had on Saturday afternoon. Rain nearly stopped play as the heavens opened throughout the whole morning, but the sun burst through the clouds, just as our first conker-ers arrived. It was full-on sunshine and smiles from there.
Here we have our conker champion and the runner up, smiling in defeat. The final play off was quite a drawn out affair and at one point we thought the sun might set before we had a champion. So ... we asked both players to bash their conkers three times on a granite wall ... and that moved things on, fairly and squarely.
Our champion ended up with NINE sashes! (and the ceremonious hat). Congratulations!
All ages played and undoubtedly the adults were the most competitive. We all learned some new techniques and next year, it's good old knotted bootlaces, not string!
Notes have been taken ... adults will be drilling conkers and there's very likely to be a thriving black market in pre-drilled, pre-strung stonking-conkers for sale!
