This important site at Les Villets came into the Trust’s care in 1993, through the most generous bequest of Miss Ruth Le Huray. This included the thatched Barn – now known as Les Caches Farm – and the adjacent mid-19th century farmhouse with the surrounding land and fields, together with two houses, Esperanza 1 and 2, directly opposite the Les Caches Farm complex.

“Les Caches belongs to nature, its pastures and the memory of a simple pastoral life from the 15th Century until the early 1990's.”

Within easy sight of each other, it is possible to see the four significant Trust buildings, with outbuildings to the rear, forming the entire estate of Ruth Le Huray, all set in a substantial plot of orchard and pasture land. Esperanza 1 and 2, together with the 19th Century farmhouse, are let to private tenants, whilst Les Caches Farm and the outbuildings are all museum premises, open to visitors and licenced for appropriate events to suit their capacity and surroundings.

The land at Les Caches Farm is open all year round for the enjoyment of visitors to appreciate the natural biodiversity and quietness of this pastoral site. The reed beds at Les Caches Farm form part of a designated Area of Biodiversity Importance and a recent botanical survey by La Société Guernesiaise has identified Yellow Loosestrife, a plant not seen in Guernsey for twenty years.

Positioned at the top of Le Gouffre valley with further National Trust of Guernsey lands within easy walking distance, we recommend bringing your own picnic and to rest awhile here at Les Caches Farm, before enjoying a beautiful cliff-scape walk. Facilities and parking are available on site throughout the year.
