Affectionately known as Guernsey's great get together, Lé Viaër Marchi takes place on Monday 3rd July, 2017 at Saumarez Park from 5pm until sunset.

Hosted by the National Trust of Guernsey and sponsored by The Channel Islands Co-operative Society, the event is best known for showcasing Guernsey’s finest and merriest traditions. It also carries the thrill of being the first Island outdoor community event of the year. The National Trust of Guernsey and The Channel Islands Co-operative Society are highly involved with Island communities and, with over 4,000 visitors each year, Lé Viaër Marchi typifies Guernsey's fun and friendly way of life. This year, with a hearty nod to the great amount of families who traditionally visit Lé Viaër Marchi, there will be no entrance fee for children under the age of 15 (who must be accompanied by an adult). Plenty of children’s entertainments are being laid on, including a stilt-walker, stalls selling jigsaws and handmade toys. There'll be a vibrant array of marketeers selling ever popular savoury, sweet and hand-baked treats.

Andrew Carey, Chairman of Lé Viäer Marchi Organising Committee:'One of the most rewarding sights at Lé Viaër Marchi, is watching the faces of crowd-goers, when they bump into someone they haven’t seen for years. This is particularly fantastic when there are children and grandchildren in tow, who are often introduced to family friends for the first time. The wide smiles and happy exclamations, hugs and handshakes, make a wonderful sight and are part of each and every Viaër Marchi. It’s truly great to see so many people of all ages, having so much fun. Being able to watch our Island community meeting up in this way is a great privilege. We hope that this year’s free entrance for children under the age of 15, will encourage many families, children and friends to visit Lé Viaér Marchi. Posters are going up around the Island schools and we hope parents will make plans to visit with their friends and children’s friends.  Our community is a great community and this event is very much focused on our younger and future generations. We hope we’ll be providing a happy time for our Island’s children and a memorable occasion for their families.'Tanya Dorrity, for The Channel Islands Co-operative Society, adds:‘Le Viaër Marchi is a celebration of our historic island way of life and it is a testament to the values of The National Trust of Guernsey to see that this year they are changing their prices to reflect their understanding of family life by allowing children under the age of 15 to enter for free. The Channel Islands Co-operative Society is proud to have been a long-standing supporter of this iconic event as it celebrates and promotes local produce, which is something we do every day in our stores. At The Channel Islands Co-operative Society our Vision is to ‘make a real difference to the communities we serve’ and one of the ways we do that is by working with local suppliers. Last year, we spent more than £11 million with 35 local food and drink producers across the Channel Islands and we will be showcasing some of their products on our stall alongside some of our new Italian delicatessen range.’

The National Trust of Guernsey and The Channel Island Co-operative Society look forward to welcoming many families, friends, children, Islanders and visitors at:
