Visitors to Fermain Bay will have noticed that the late-18th Century Loophole Tower No.15 at Fermain is shrouded in scaffolding and protective plastic covers. The Fermain Tower, as it is usually known, was bequeathed to the National Trust of Guernsey in 2002 by Percy Ferguson. The Trust is now carrying out essential internal and external building work to ensure that the Tower is wind and watertight. With an eye to the longer-term future of Fermain Tower, the Trust has recently submitted plans to the Development & Planning Authority. If successful, they will be the first stage of an exciting proposal that will see the Tower developed as a unique heritage destination to provide accommodation for short-term leisure breaks. In due course, the Trust will reveal details of a fundraising campaign, the success of which will steer the development of Fermain Tower. The Trust looks forward to being able to fulfil a long-held aim to restore a heritage property for the enjoyment both of Bailiwick residents and visitors.
