2015 Draft Island Development Plan

The Environment Department published the draft Island Development Plan and the corresponding Environmental Statement on Monday 16th February 2015. NTG President and ex States Minister Martin Ozanne was interviewed this morning, at St Peter's Post Office in his capacity as Dean of St Pierre du Bois.  He made it clear that as the Douzaine had not yet met, he could only express his personal opinion. Martin went on to say that in his view, the proposals covering the Local Center of Les Brehauts, St. Peters, seemed sensible, making best use of the small community center, with limited new housing and some low key retail now in the draft plan.  He pointed out that the previous Rural Plan included an airport safety zone, this was now not shown on this new plan. As President of National Trust of Guernsey, Martin Ozanne expressed concern that a number of conservation areas had been removed and wished to see those areas of historical importance continued to be protected. He also said that owners of derelict glass house sites who might have been hopeful for planning permission and who are not going to be successful if this plan is approved, should clear these eyesores and revert the land to agricultural use.
