Lé Viaër Marchi (the Old Guernsey Market) our biggest event of each year since 1970, takes place at Saumarez Park tomorrow, Monday 1st July from 5pm until sunset.
Showcasing Guernsey's heritage to include artisan demonstrations, stallholder wares, and traditional singing and dancing, complemented by a plethora of delicious food offerings, the event is known to herald the start of Guernsey's Summer.
Very popular with all ages, Lé Viaër Marchi is a wonderful opportunity to catch up with people and meet new friends. This year, our Patron the Lieutenant Governor will open the event and pay tribute to the late Nigel Lewis, a wood craft demonstrator at Lé Viaër Marchi for nearly 50 years. His son Jamie will collect a locally-made silver bashin, acknowledging Nigel's "Outstanding Contribution to Preserving Guernsey's Heritage".
We have more food providers than ever before, alongside traditional Guernsey Bean Jar, Guernsey Gâche, Guernsey Biscuits and Doughnuts, those baked items all being supplied by Senners Bakery and some enhanced by Guernsey Butter kindly donated by Guernsey Dairy.
Folk music, sea shanties and traditional Guernsey songs are performed by The Button Pushers, GU10 and La Guaine de Vouest respectively. Traditional Guernsey dances will be performed by L'Assemblaie Guernesiaise in the centre of the event arena.
We know that Lé Viaër Marchi is truly underway with the glorious sight and sound of Guernsey Boys' Brigade Band at around 6pm.
