Charlotte Le Marquand is a third year zoology student at Swansea University undertaking a hedgehog project investigating the distribution of the species on Guernsey. In March this year, Charlie got in touch with National Trust of Guernsey to learn more about what goes on in the island in terms of conservation and natural history. Her timing was great. The States of Guernsey (at the time) had recently agreed to fund a Biodiversity Strategy and the Trust had just been approached by marine conservationists on the subject of the diminishing fish stocks around the island. Council formed a Biodiversity sub-committee mindful that environmental projects take many years of study and research – and the responsible truth is that some of us are not so young. Charlotte was immediately interested in the marine conservation project – more details in September. We were delighted that a student with interest and youth on her side, could be involved from outset. It may be a few years before Charlie can be fully involved with National Trust of Guernsey but being involved now, as information, technologies, and environmental conditions change, offers invaluable future knowledge. We are very grateful to Charlie and wish her every success with her research. Please help if you can. Contact: Charlotte Le Marquand at Guernsey Hedgehogs
