A bright cold December day is a wonderful time to take a walk. Here's something you might look out for along the way. Wrens are busy little birds and Ivy is stalwart and prodigious, providing shelter and insects during the winter. The relationship works well. Wrens are tiny and like our other feathered friends, have to eat throughout the winter in order to survive. No sleepy spider or insect is safe! You may hear their sharp alarm call, which is remarkably loud for a small bird. When they're perching, look out for their distinctive cocked tail which they flick repeatedly. It's the kind of bird that you thought you saw in the blink of an eye - you heard it first, you looked and it was almost gone! NTG's Pleinmont area has a feast of winter walks to enjoy.
