On Thursday 1st December 2016 at 10am, Lady Corder visited the National Trust of Guernsey's Victorian Christmas Shop and, by dint of being our first customer, the Christmas Shop became officially open! After listening to a brief history of the Trust's medieval building here at 26 Cornet Street, and watching a demonstration of the opening and closing of the unique barrel shutters which enclose the shop's double fronted bow windows, Lady Corder weighed out sweets by hand and enjoyed a little Christmas shopping. Both floors of the shop have unusual and traditional Christmas stock which includes many items from bygone eras, some of which are hard to find elsewhere. We had happily anticipated a rush for Sarah Hall's handmade Dickensian Mice and were delighted to be able to supply those visitors who had patiently waited. The initial stock though, was quickly snapped up and we look forward to more deliveries, to the shop, throughout this Christmas period. Owing to popular demand, we've decided to extend The Victorian Christmas Shop's Christmas trading period to include late night Christmas shopping on Thursday 22nd December. The shop will then be open from 10am until 8pm, after which the doors will close until re-opening shortly after Easter 2017. Congratulations must go to Elizabeth Lihou, our shop manageress, ably assisted by Robin Whicker, for once again creating a magical and unique Victorian Christmas Shop, the likes of which cannot be found anywhere else within the Channel Islands and, mindful of the barrel shutters ... we believe nowhere else in the British Isles.
