NTG's President Martin Ozanne said a heartfelt thank you and fond farewell to Gordon Collenette, who retired as Brockhurst's gardener, some 22 years after he took up the post.
In 1992 and having 'retired' at the age of 64, Gordon worked for the late Mrs. Florian Carr who owned Brockhurst at the time. In 2000 Mrs. Carr sold Brockhurst to the National Trust of Guernsey for the princely sum of one golden guinea and Gordon remained as gardener for the trust.
Today's farewell presentation was a real surprise for Gordon as his wife had managed to keep it totally secret! We are delighted that Gordon's real retirement has been covered by Guernsey Radio and The Guernsey Press and look forward to hearing and reading more about Gordon Collenette's time at Brockhurst.
We wish Mr. Collenette a happy – and proper – retirement!
