A Wonderful Evening for the Launch of Guernsey Tartan©
What a wonderful turnout for Katy Barrett’s worldwide launch of Guernsey Tartan© at The Folk and Costume Museum. The sun shone (for most of the time), the atmosphere sparkled (throughout) and guests were captivated not only by the beauty of the tartan itself, but also by the inspiring story of its inception and journey to production.
The evening was full of lively conversation, with strong representation from Guernsey’s Scottish community and many familiar faces.
It was especially heartening to see members of the spinners and weavers group, who so generously share their heritage skills in our Museum courtyard and at Lé Viaër Marchi, joining us to celebrate this new chapter in textile craft.
We wish Katy every success as she takes her work forward. Turning an idea from paper to production is no small feat, and she has done a sterling job in bringing Guernsey’s very own tartan to life.
For those eager to see more, a display of Guernsey Tartan© can now be viewed in the Fishermens’ Exhibition at The Folk and Costume Museum. While some items may be available from stock, many will be made-to-order, reflecting the care and craftsmanship behind each piece.
We are also deeply grateful for the wave of positive comments across all media platforms including coverage on television, radio, and in the press — all recognising the dedication and skill of artisan crafters and designers. Thank you one and all.
And finally, our sincere thanks go to Sir Richard McMahon, Bailiff of Guernsey and Patron of the Trust, whose presence at the gathering was warmly appreciated. His support and approval have been vital in enabling Katy’s vision to come to life.
